Got a chance to run with an old friend, not that she's old, but we've been friends since college.  She is new to running and was really down about her performance.  She is terribly competitive and gets frustrated each time someone passes her.  I tried to explain to her that her attitude will make her burn out.  She needs to make running her own thing and not worry about anyone else.  The main objective should be enjoy it and the rest will come naturally.  I invited to join the blog.  Hopefully she'll join.

Too cold today but at least it beats the TM.  Did some fartlek through out the last five miles.

Very good perspective!! I think many of us have issues with this, MANY!!!! i have gotten over it for the most part, but have a hard time when I do the smaller local races and I know the people passing me. HATE THAT!

I have lots of chocolate for you!

Thanks Kelli! My kids as smart enough to remove all the "good" chocolate from their bags and hide it on Halloween so I can't get to it. I know it makes you fat and rots your teeth but I'm just not willing to give up one of life's little pleasures. Truely my only vice, that and running.

Chocolate is certainly hard to pass up on. I love your perspective lyman...I think you are right on. You should come run with our group sometime. We are meeting on Saturday at 8 a.m. on Davis Blvd and 400 N. in Bountiful if you want to come.

Hey there!

Wanted to thank you for all the great tri info! I really appreciated it. Swimming in open water scares me ... so I guess I should start! :) (When it warms up, of course.)

Sounds like an awesome run!! Have your friend start her races in the back ... she will feel INCREDIBLE as she passes people instead of being passed. :)

I'm still working on not being so competitive. Competition is good ... but too much of it can ruin everything.

Hope she joins the blog.

Teena beat me to the punch!! I was thinking that last night---start the races at the back,it is fun to pass and rarely be passed. Man, we are competitive! But getting passed too much kind of sucks the life out of you.

Blonderunner - Your Saturday run sounds like fun. It starts just a couple of blocks from my house. I've got a trail run planned with a couple of friends Saturday morning but I'll take up the offer for next Saturday. Thanks!
