Waiting for those Mesquite Marathon reports to come up. Where are you Burt!
Finally they arrive. Very nice marathon everyone. Josse once again amazes me how she can race so well so often!

I'm feeling a little burned out. Not sure why. Just overall muscle fatigue. It may be that I am swimming on a regular basis again after a year or so and doing some (not much) upper body exercises.

The mixed blessing of Facebook...

I've reconnected to so many high school friends. I went to high school in Asuncion, Paraguay so reconnecting with these old friends is a little miracle of sorts. Unfortunetly that means I get to hear all the bad news from the last 20 years, as well as the good news. Today I found out that a close friend of mine in high school committed suicide in 1997. Very tough news to get and some guilt for no having made an effort to keep my friends closer.

So with that bad news and the physical fatigue/burn out I decided to take today off and maybe tomorrow too. We'll see. I'm sure the race reports will get my spirits back up.

Facebook can be a curse for many reasons and that is a tough one!!

Why did you go to HS in Paraguay? My brother went on a mission there, but he was literally in the jungle. He used to send me pictures of the spiders and threaten to mail an actual live one. YUCK!

Sorry about the burn out. It happens to me a few times a year. Sit down and read a good book, take the day off!

My dad was a diplomat stationed at the US Embassy. Every 3 to 5 years we would move to a different country since I was very little. We lived in Paraguay from 1982 to 1986. We may have coincided with your brother (if he is much older). If so, ask if he remembers an American Mormon family that went to Barrio Moroni.

Paraguay is not just spiders, they have flying roaches too, the size of hummingbirds!

My brother is actually younger than me. He will be turning 31 on December 31st. So, unfortunately not the same time. Plus, he was WAY out there. Like everyone lived in shacks made of leftover tin from who knows where, usually only with three sides. Maybe those are just the pictures he sent us to scare us, but that is what I saw!

Flying roaches? I do not remember him trying to scare me with those. I would just get these letter and be all excited, and then open them up to HUGE spider pictures. Yuck. He did once send a picture of a monkey on his shoulder, but no flying roaches. YIKES!

Where else did you get to live? That is kind of cool, especially to poor ole me who never gets to leave Utah.

Well its hard receiving news like that, and facebook can be a curse, although I havent moved away and live with my family down the road from my parents LOL.

Kelli - I lived in Santiago - Chile (twice - in the 70s as a kid and again right after college in the 90s working for CitiBank), Buenos Aires-Argentina, and Seville-Spain along with Asuncion-Paraguay. All spanish speaking which made things easy. If you ever get the opportunity I highly recommend visiting Buenos Aires-Argentina, my favorite place (partly because I'm half argentine).

Okay, nice traveling and living abroad. I am truly jealous, really. I never get to go anywhere. I should have married a diplomat instead of a cop!!! Oh well, I like him so I will keep him. And he promises to take me places when they kids are grown, if only I will agree to fly on a plane. So I will keep your recommendation.

Kelli - you may not travel much outside Utah but you do live in a pretty awesome state. We love it hear so much that my wife and I have no plans to leave. Beautiful national parks, great people, great schools, and everything you could want for an outdoors life style. After you travel with you husband around the world you'll be happy to come back home to Utah.

That is bummer news Lyman. I recently just found out that an old friend I knew back in the Marine Corps and her sister passed away about a week ago in a terrible car accident. I haven't kept in touch with her lately so I know how you feel. Hope you feel better physically and mentally!

Sorry to keep you waiting Ly. It was a long trip back. Sorry about your friend. I think I had similar feelings when I picked up an AZ magazine at the doctor's office and read through the list of fallen soldiers from AZ and saw my high school friend's name on it.

Don't tell my wife about flying roaches. She's deathly afraid of even the smallest roaches.

Vinh - thanks for your note. I'm back to normal and ready to refocus on my running. You are showing some great improvement in speed. I've got to be honest, i'm a litle jealous. At 42 I feel that my rate of progress is slowing down.

Burt - If you wouldn't have made me laugh so hard at your race report I'd be mad for having to waite a couple of days to read it. Sorry to hear about you friend. It really feels like a huge loss even after not seeing them for an extended amount of time.
